During a campaign event in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump caused a stir by referring to his opponent Kamala Harris as a “s— vice president” and making some unusual remarks about the late golfer Arnold Palmer’s private parts.
Trump, who is the oldest presidential candidate in U.S. history and has yet to release his medical records (unlike Harris), reportedly spent 12 minutes discussing Palmer, who was born in Latrobe, the city where Trump was giving his speech.
In front of his supporters, the golf enthusiast praised Palmer, saying: “There were a few golfers that you could say may be slightly better – a few, not many – but there was nobody that had his magic.
“This is a guy that was all man. This man was strong and tough, and I refused to say it, but he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there, they said, ‘oh my God, that’s unbelievable’. I had to say it.”
While many felt that Trump did not need to make such a statement, his comments sparked a wave of disbelief across social media, with some questioning his mental state yet again.
Sportswriter and TV host Pablo Torre humorously remarked, “A nonzero number of Americans are voting for Trump so they can call stuff ‘gay’ again and meanwhile their guy’s out here lost in a reverie about the late Arnold Palmer’s private parts.”
In a tweet, the organization Republicans Against Trump referenced a statement by Palmer’s daughter, Peg Palmer, from 2020, where she said, “He (Palmer) was appalled by Trump’s lack of civility and what he began to see as Trump’s lack of character.”
Various news outlets were quick to comment on Trump’s speech. NJ.com called the statements “crude,” the Daily Mail described the incident as “bizarre,” and Politico simply referred to them as “raunchy.”
