As the 2024 race enters its final days, the latest CNN poll, conducted by SSRS, shows Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump tied at 47% among likely voters. Support has held steady throughout the campaign, with voters largely entrenched in their choices.
The poll reveals that 85% of likely voters made up their minds early, with just 15% considering changing their preference along the way. As of now, only 2% remain undecided, while 9% report they might still switch before casting a ballot. This consistency has defined a tight, contentious race where small shifts could be pivotal.
Harris has leveraged Democrats’ preference for early voting, leading Trump 61% to 36% among those who have already cast ballots. However, Trump gains among those yet to vote, 50% to 44%. Key demographic patterns favor each candidate: Harris performs best among suburban women, younger voters, and people of color, with 79% of Black voters and 54% of Hispanic voters backing her.
Trump, meanwhile, finds strong support among White voters (55%) and rural communities (64%). Suburban voters, crucial in swing areas, lean toward Harris by a 52% to 44% margin, thanks largely to support from suburban women, while suburban men remain nearly evenly split.
Voter perceptions of the candidates reflect a clear divide in priorities. Harris is seen as more relatable and trustworthy, with 43% of voters saying she cares about people like them, compared to Trump’s 37%. Harris leads on reproductive rights and protecting democracy, but Trump has a significant edge on handling the economy (50% over Harris’s 37%) and immigration.
Voters also favor Trump on bringing about change, 44% to Harris’s 38%. These divisions underscore the contrasting visions each candidate represents, resonating deeply with a polarized electorate that heads to the polls in a deadlocked, high-stakes election.
