At a recent Univision town hall in Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed immigration, healthcare, and the economy—key issues for Latino voters in the upcoming 2024 election.

Harris emphasized her support for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), expressing commitment to protecting “Dreamers,” undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

“Harris reiterates support for ‘Dreamers,’ as she courts Latino voters at town hall,” underscored her push for a pathway to citizenship.

When first-time voter Jesus Aispuro asked about measures to support Dreamers, Harris highlighted her priority of comprehensive immigration reform, aiming to establish a citizenship pathway.

At a Univision town hall in Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized her support for immigration reform and DACA recipients.

Responding to Yvette Castillo, who shared a personal story about her mother’s death without U.S. citizenship, Harris referenced a bipartisan bill that could have created a citizenship pathway but was blocked by Trump.

Harris remarked “Had your mother been able to gain citizenship, she would have been entitled to health care that may have alleviated her suffering and yours.

And this is one example of the fact that there are real people who are suffering because of an inability to put solutions in front of politics,” she continued.

With the Latino vote crucial in this election, Harris currently leads Trump among Latino voters, but the race remains tight.

Rep. Robert Garcia highlighted, “Latinos are going to have an outsized influence in this election because the margins are so tight,” underlining the importance of Harris’ outreach.

Beyond immigration, Harris fielded questions on other issues. Mario Sigbaum, an undecided voter, questioned her candidacy and expressed At the town hall, Harris addressed questions on her nomination and potential support for Trump.

She defended herself by criticizing Trump for allegedly sending COVID tests to Putin.”I’m sure people here have family members or friends who died [from COVID], and he secretly shipped off COVID tests to Vladimir Putin of Russia,” she stated, focusing on the pandemic’s impact on minorities.

The event also covered issues like disaster response, economic relief, and disability rights. Harris outlined plans to combat price gouging and support disabled individuals.

Addressing a question on disability, she emphasized, “The point is being very simple, frankly, which is that all people, regardless of disability, should have equal access to housing, to job opportunities, to education, and again, community, and there’s still a lot of work that we have to do in that regard.

Harris’ outreach to Latino voters is a strategic move as the election nears, with their influence potentially decisive in the outcome.
