Basketball superstar LeBron James has publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, just days ahead of Election Day, highlighting what he believes to be a clear choice.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Los Angeles Lakers player shared his views, saying, “What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!” James accompanied his endorsement with a video showcasing clips of offensive remarks made by former President Donald Trump.
The video included soundbites of Trump over the years, including statements warning that the country would end up “like Detroit” if Harris were elected, and remarks about undocumented immigrants “poisoning the blood of our country.” The video concluded with the message: “Hate takes us back.”
James’ endorsement is the latest high-profile support for Harris, who has also received backing from celebrities like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. James, a consistent supporter of Democratic candidates, previously endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 and has often criticized Trump’s actions and rhetoric during his time in office.
Notably, James famously called Trump a “bum” in response to the then-president uninviting fellow NBA player Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors from a White House visit. In 2020, when Trump criticized athletes taking a knee during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice, James dismissed the critique and instead urged people to “see what leadership we have at the top of our country” and to vote.
Beyond endorsements, James has been actively involved in promoting voter rights. In the 2020 election, he founded More Than A Vote, a voting rights organization focused on combating voter suppression, especially in Black communities.
The organization recruited thousands of poll workers for Black-majority districts and assisted Floridians struggling with outstanding fees and fines related to felony convictions, helping them register to vote.
Following President Joe Biden’s victory in 2020, which James celebrated, More Than A Vote turned its attention to opposing GOP-led bills aimed at restricting voter access and launched initiatives to mobilize Black voters in local and off-year elections.
As Election Day approaches, both the Harris and Trump campaigns are leveraging celebrity endorsements to reach voters. On Wednesday, former NFL quarterback Brett Favre joined Trump at a campaign event in Wisconsin. Meanwhile, Harris will hold a rally in Milwaukee on Friday, featuring performances by rappers Cardi B, GloRilla, and Flo Milli.
