Lincoln Project Targets Trump on Abortion Stance in New Digital Ad as Election Heats Up

The Lincoln Project has launched a new digital ad spotlighting abortion and reproductive health care, directly targeting Donald Trump’s stance as he attempts to navigate the divide between his anti-abortion base and the majority of Americans who support abortion rights.

Trump recently claimed he would veto a federal abortion ban, but his track record tells a different story. His previous administration laid the groundwork for overturning Roe v. Wade, and he recently supported Florida’s six-week abortion ban. He argues that states should decide on the matter, yet nearly two dozen states have imposed severe restrictions or outright bans on abortion.

Meanwhile, as Trump tries to win back female voters in key battleground states, heartbreaking stories emerge.

In Georgia, two women reportedly died from complications after taking abortion pills.

In Texas, Kate Cox was denied an abortion for a non-viable pregnancy, even after four emergency room visits and severe health risks.

Trump’s stance may make it challenging for him to gain ground with women, a demographic that currently views Kamala Harris more favorably in the national polls. As the election nears, the Lincoln Project’s ad highlights the stark realities of restricted abortion access under policies Trump has supported, putting a spotlight on the significant impact on women’s lives across the country.

The ad shows a woman going through a medical emergency with a female narrator saying:

Narrator“It didn’t have to end this way dad. You were so excited to be a grandfather. When you walked me down the aisle, those were happy tears. College, high school, sports. I could always count on you. You were my protector. My hero. You always made me feel safe, loved (and) like I was the most important person in the world. But it turned out, he was more important.”

The video then cuts to clips of Trump and MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell

Trump“The fact that I was able to terminate Roe v Wade after 50 years of trying.”

O’Donnell“Each one of those abortion bans includes strict legal rules, rules that are designed to be impossible to comply with. How does a mother who is dying in a hospital bed get to a courthouse to prove to a judge that she’s dying?”

Trump“You will no longer be thinking about abortion.”

Narrator“You knew what he’d do. You knew his politics would end my freedom, my rights, my life. You chose hate over me.”
