Mel Gibson backs Trump for president, says Harris has ‘the IQ of a fence post’

Mel Gibson says Kamala Harris ‘has the IQ of a fence post

Mel Gibson gave a harsh critique of Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday when asked about his views on the 2024 presidential election, remarking that she has “the IQ of a fence post.”

The 68-year-old actor was spotted by a TMZ photographer as he entered Los Angeles International Airport, who quickly approached him with a question about his thoughts on the upcoming election.

“That’s a big question,” Gibson responded with a laugh, hinting that his opinion might not come as a surprise. “I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone who I’ll vote for,” he continued, brushing off the question as he walked through the busy terminal.

TMZ shared a video of the encounter, showing Gibson’s gruff and casual demeanor as he doubled down on his support for former President Donald Trump.

However, his tone shifted sharply when he began talking about Harris, the Democratic candidate. Visibly more animated, Gibson delved into his criticisms of the vice president.

“I know what it’ll be like if we let her in, and that ain’t good,” Gibson said, his expression serious.

He then went on to add a list of criticisms: “Miserable track record – appalling track record. No policies to speak of. And she’s got the I.Q. of a fence post,” Gibson added, making it clear that he has little regard for Harris’s capabilities.

This is not the first time Trump himself has used similarly harsh words to describe Harris, along with President Biden, calling them both “low-IQ” and “mentally impaired.”

Interestingly, the “Get The Gringo” actor has not always been outspoken in support of Trump. In both the 2016 and 2020 elections, he refrained from endorsing the Republican candidate.

However, whether this was due to past differences with Trump or Hollywood’s generally liberal environment is unclear.

In 2021, Gibson was spotted at a UFC fight, giving Trump a salute, which many fans of the former president noted with interest.

The actor’s recent remarks about Harris come just days after Andrew Garfield, a fellow Hollywood star, openly supported Gibson. In an interview with People, Garfield, who starred in Gibson’s 2016 film “Hacksaw Ridge,” praised the director, despite his controversies.

Garfield expressed his view that “people deserve second chances, third chances, fourth chances. That none of us are infallible.” Garfield, who is Jewish, shared that he had “deep, important conversations” with Gibson, who had famously faced backlash in 2006 after making antisemitic remarks during a DUI arrest.

The actor went on to reflect on Gibson’s journey of personal growth, describing him as someone who has “done a lot of beautiful healing with himself.”

He praised Gibson’s filmmaking skills, stating, “He’s an amazing filmmaker, and I think he deserves to make films. He deserves to tell stories because he has a very, very big, compassionate heart,” Garfield concluded.
