Former President Donald Trump gestures to the audience as he departs a campaign rally in Coachella, California

A man was arrested on gun-related charges in California on Saturday, near where former President Donald Trump was holding a rally.

According to a joint statement from the U.S. Secret Service, FBI, and Department of Justice, Trump was not in any danger during the incident.

The man, identified as 49-year-old Vem Miller from Las Vegas, was accused of illegally possessing a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco stated that Miller managed to reach the first security perimeter near the rally in Coachella. When he proceeded to the second perimeter, security personnel noticed some “irregularities” during their check.

Bianco mentioned that the interior of Miller’s car was in disarray, the vehicle was unregistered, and it had a fake license plate. Additionally, Miller was found carrying multiple driver’s licenses and passports under different names.

While the reason for Miller’s presence in the area remains unclear, Bianco said that Miller claimed to be a journalist to pass through the checkpoints and attend the rally.

Before the rally began, Miller was taken into custody and charged with firearms offenses. He was later released on a $5,000 bail. Jail records indicate that Miller is expected to appear in court on January 2.

When interviewed by Fox News Digital, Miller denied any intent to harm Trump. He stated that he is a Trump supporter and explained that he routinely carries weapons while traveling.

Miller also claimed that he voluntarily reported the presence of the weapons when he arrived at the rally checkpoint.

Two federal officials told CNN that, at this time, there is no evidence suggesting Miller intended to assassinate the former president.

The investigation is ongoing, and no federal arrest has been made at this time.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco doubled down Sunday, insisting he believes a third assassination attempt was foiled.

In their joint statement, the Secret Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, and FBI expressed gratitude to local law enforcement officers and partners who helped ensure the safety of the event.

Trump’s campaign also thanked security personnel for protecting the area and ensuring Trump’s safety.

Campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung stated that they are monitoring the situation and gathering more information.

We are aware of the reports regarding the arrest and are currently overseeing the situation,” Cheung told CNN.
